Description
Description
LOCTITE 5205 is a single-component anaerobic flat gasket based on methacrylate with medium strength, designed for machined rigid metal flanges that require partial flexibility. The product cures without air access in the joint between metal surfaces and seals fitted joints. It exhibits immediate resistance to low pressure right after assembly and is capable of filling gaps up to 0.25 mm. Due to its semi-flexible consistency, it is ideal for joints exposed to vibrations and thermal expansion.
Composition and functional properties:
- Chemical base: Methacrylate (dimethacrylate ester).
- Curing: Anaerobic process occurring in the metal joint without air access.
- Fluorescence: Positive under UV light – allows automated optical quality control of application.
- Flexibility: Semi-flexible structure that retains flexibility even after exposure to high temperatures.
- Application: Suitable for manual application as well as robotic dispensing due to optimal viscosity.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Technology | Acrylate / Anaerobic curing |
| Appearance | Red viscous liquid |
| Maximum gap | 0.25 mm |
| Fixation time (steel / aluminum) | 25 minutes |
| Temperature resistance | -55 °C to +150 °C |
| Pressure resistance (fully cured) | Up to 10 MPa |
| Immediate sealing (low pressure) | < 0.05 MPa |
Application area and examples of use:
- Automotive industry: Sealing of engine blocks, valve covers, oil pans, and engine housings.
- Engineering: Flat sealing of gearbox housings, pumps, and compressors.
- Material compatibility: Optimal for rigid flanges made of steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
Installation and application instructions:
- Preparation: Surfaces must be clean and degreased (Loctite SF 7063 or SF 7061 cleaner recommended).
- Removal: To remove old gasket residues, use Loctite SF 7200.
- Activation: When applying below 5 °C or on passive metals, use Loctite SF 7240 or SF 7649 activator.
- Dispensing: Apply in a continuous bead on one of the surfaces. Tighten the flanges as soon as possible after assembly to avoid creating too large a gap.
- Storage: Store in the original container at temperatures between 8 °C and 21 °C.
